Archiproducts Awards Winner

Archiproducts Design Awards Winner 2023 for Mercury Lounge Chair

WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT RITZWELL'S MERCURY LOUNGE CHAIR, DESIGNED BY SHINSAKU MIYAMOTO, HAS RECEIVED ONE OF THE 2023 ARCHIPRODUCTS DESIGN AWARDS.

Now at its eighth edition, the award identifies the products that best represent the culture of contemporary design thanks to the continuous research carried out by the portal Archiproducts, which is a renowned point of reference for the work of designers. In particular, this edition focused on the selection of “objects that make people feel protected, celebrate diversity and move beyond the usual stereotypes”.
The international jury, composed of the most sought-after characters from the world of design and architecture, evaluated more than 700 projects, among functional and innovative furnishings, lights, finishes, construction systems, and the latest technological proposals for the home. Jurors included the designers Alain Gilles and Kelly Wearstler, the architects Manuel Aires MateusAMDL CIRCLE, Giorgio Donà and Massimo Roj, the artists Agostino Iacurci, Pietro Terzini and Emiliano Ponzi, the curator of the studio-museum Achille Castiglioni Giovanna Castiglioni. Winners of the contest distinguished themselves in the 2023 production in terms of originality, innovation, and experimentation.

The MERCURY LOUNGE CHAIR posits itself as a miniature piece of architecture, the result of a project studied in every detail. A true pleasure for the eyes at 360°, it seduces with its elegance, lightness and dynamic lines which define this chair from every point of view. It is a perfect synthesis between the basic principles of Japanese philosophy and a contemporary style, its main distinctive feature being the empty space between the inclined backboard and the slender rear legs, which are joined with the chairback in a gradually tapered movement. Solidity and resistance are the fruit of a perfect balance between the tubular section legs and the horizontal and vertical supporting battens in hairline stainless steel. The comfort of the seat derives from the slight elliptical curve of the cantilever armrests covered in the same thick leather of the backrest and from the padded cushions, which can be personalised with high-quality fabrics. As all products signed by Ritzwell, the MERCURY LOUNGE CHAIR preserves the memory of the hands of the skilled craftsmen who created it. In fact, thanks to the materials and finishes, which have all been selected for their ability to acquire the “glaze of time” (furubi in Japanese), its discrete beauty awakens the desire in any user to enjoy it as long as possible.
